“To Roly from Nessa,” were the words Gozitan jeweller George Farrugia inscribed on a watch that actress Angelina Jolie gave her husband Brad Pitt as a gift.

The names are a reference to their characters in By the Sea, the film they are shooting in Mġarr ix-Xini.

The Mirror reported that the actress bought her husband a 1952 Patek Philippe platinum chronometer, a legendary design by one of the most respected of all Swiss watchmakers.

The watch was taken to Mr Farrugia who runs Dolindo Jewellers. Asked for a comment, his son said they were instructed not to speak to the press.

Mr Farrugia was quoted as saying that the watch was very valuable and that he wasn’t nervous about the inscription because he knew he could do the work perfectly.

Meanwhile, People magazine has reported that the actress is interested in learning to speak Maltese.

Quoting an unnamed source, People says that Jolie “has asked for a Maltese translator because she wants to speak with the locals in their own language. How nice she is!”.
