Since March 31, 2012 there has been no cinema in Gozo. An article that appeared on the front page of this newspaper cited the expense of new digital equipment and low audience figures. The suggestion was that if audience figures improved it would make the cinema viable.

The reason audience figures were low was blamed on the fact that the cinema was unable to screen films in Gozo at the same time as their release in Malta. Why does this situation exist? What prevents KRS, the distributors, from creating a level playing field. Why is Gozo victimised?

The cinema is a private enterprise but it is also a public service and many would like to see it restored.
