At its first general meeting, the recently established Gozo Regional Youth Council (GRYC), made up of representatives from various Gozitan youth organisations, approved its statute and elected its committee members for the coming two years. They are: president Ryan Mercieca, vice president Marc Schembri, secretary general Sabrina Portelli, finance officer Damien Spiteri, PRO Eman Borg, international affairs and EU officer Alan Cini, membership officer Francienne Muscat, local council youth officer Josmar Saliba, policies officer Josmar Azzopardi, activities officer Christian Azzopardi and youth services officer Francesco Caruana.

Mercieca said the setting up of the council is a first step in recognising that Gozo’s future lies in its youth. “We will work together as a team to bring forward issues regarding Gozo and Gozitans, offer opportunities and broaden the prospects for Gozitan youths. We feel the need to inspire innovative and creative thinking in our society,” he said.

The council is based at the NGO Centre, Madonna tar-Rummiena Street, Xewkija.
