Salvinu Mercieca recently celebrated his 100th birthday with a concelebrated Mass, led by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech and other priests, including his nephew, Mgr Salvinu Debrincat, and his cousin, Mgr Francis Debrincat.

Mr Mercieca, who was born in Munxar in 1913 and had 10 children, has 26 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was the second child in a family of seven children, who have all passed away.

Still enjoying good health, Mr Mercieca has kept himself busy after retiring from the Water Works Department, where he was employed. He worked heartily with young people and children at the parish centre.

In fact, the parish priest has dedicated a plaque as a tribute to Mr Mercieca, who unveiled it after Mass.

A party held afterwards at the parish centre was attended by Mr Mercieca’s children and their families, relatives and friends.
