The government is studying a report on MPs’ honoraria, requested by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat from the Auditor General, the Ombudsman and the Chief Electoral Commissioner.

Jason Azzopardi (PN) said the report had been ready for several months.

Dr Muscat pointed out that originally the Opposition had refused to take part in consultations surrounding the report because it had said the three institutions had no mandate to delve into the issue. It was only later that the Opposition had changed its mind.

The Prime Minister also remarked that at the time of commissioning the report, it had been said that it was being drawn up so that its recommendations could be considered for implementation in the next legislature.
