The opposition yesterday criticised the government for not providing any concrete solutions to tackle Gozo’s labour and foreign investment challenges during its presentation of the Budget last Monday.
PL family spokesman Justyne Caruana noted that young Gozitans had to leave their homes and families because of a lack of opportunities.
The Budget failed to tackle cancer care in Gozo, the sewage problem at Wied il-Mielaħ and childcare services, she added. The PL also believed a Gozo Tourism Authority should be set up.
Labour spokesman for sustainable investment in Gozo, Anton Refalo, said that over three years the government had spent only €7 out of the €25 million it had pledged for Eco Gozo.
But in a statement shortly after, Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono said the government would as promised be investing €25 million in the Eco Gozo project.
She added the PL also chose to ignore large projects including works on the Xewkija road leading to Victoria, Ta’ Pinu and Xlendi roads.
