Yoann Gourcuff’s agent, Jean-Pierre Bernes, has rubbished reports the France playmaker could leave Lyon this month, despite his ongoing struggles to impose himself at the club.

“We’ve spoken with Gourcuff and he has no reason to leave Lyon,” said Bernes.

“It would be completely absurd. I’m willing to take this step but I have to be thoroughly convinced of his interest. And that’s not the case.”

Gourcuff joined Lyon from Bordeaux in a €22m deal in 2010 but failed to settle at Stade Gerland.

“He’s at a good club,” said Bernes. “He’s been injured, he needs time. I can’t see how this player could fail to impose himself at Lyon.”
