On August 19, I was waiting to board the Gozo ferry. Suddenly, a quarrel broke out between two drivers and immediately, a young police officer intervened to calm down the situation.

One of the drivers starting swearing and after being warned to stop, the man persisted with his vociferous attitude.

At that point, the officer pulled out his notebook and pen to charge the offender for swearing.

“Oh, come on. I’m sorry. Please forgive me”, the culprit pleaded.

The officer coolly answered, “I’m a policeman, not a priest,” and proceeded with the booking.

It’s a pity we don’t have more serious attempts to clamp down on swearing and blaspheming in public places.

Thumbs up to this police officer. Well done.
