Lazio have breathed a big sigh of relief with news that Italian goalkeeper Federico Marchetti’s injury is not serious.

Marchetti was substituted in the first half of his team’s 2-0 win over Frosinone on Sunday after suffering a facial injury.

Tests done on the 32-year-old ruled out a cheekbone fracture.

“Marchetti had a cut and bruised cheekbone, which was sutured immediately with five stitches,” Lazio team doctor Roberto Bianchini told his club’s official website.

“However, further examinations were needed, which fortunately showed no fracture. Marchetti is therefore only cut and bruised.”

Lazio full-back Dusan Basta also got hurt on Sunday and will be sidelined for up to three weeks.

“Basta suffered a dislocated shoulder,” Bianchini said.

“Once he was taken off a brace was applied which he will wear for 15 or 20 days.”

Lazio, coached by Stefano Pioli, have won five and lost two of their opening seven Serie A games.

They are third in the standings, three points adrift of league leaders Fiorentina.

The Biancoceleste visit Sassuolo on October 18 in Serie A before hosting Rosenborg four days later in the Europa League.
