The sum collected for Puttinu Cares from this year’s 27-kilometre Good Friday Night Walk from Mellieħa to Senglea was €46,200.

Walkers from Mellieħa gathered at around 1am outside the Sanctuary of Our Lady in Mellieħa and others from the central and southern parts of Malta met in Senglea at midnight and caught several buses and coaches to Mellieħa.

Almost 4,000 participants started the walk at about 2am, led by Mellieħa parish priest Fr Joe Caruana.

The Good Friday Night Walk started off in 2004 as a personal pilgrimage by Joseph Vella and increased in popularity over the years. Last year, around 1,700 people participated, collecting €25,000 in aid of Puttinu Cares.

Those who made it to the parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Senglea were given a commemorative certificate. Many also entered the church to pay their respects to Christ the Redeemer.
