As the electoral campaign progresses, Gonzi keeps increasing the dose of his “panic” statements. The most incredible one to date is his claim that Labour’s plans for a new gas power plant, financed by the private sector, “is a criminal act”.

Although Gonzi knew, when making this incredible claim, that the PL’s proposal has been scrutinised and audited by the same international consultancy company used by his own government on a number of occasions, including on the problems faced by the BWSC plant in Delimara, as well as business organisations, unions (including UĦM), NGOs, University professors, and a number of his own part’s ex-MPs, Dr Gonzi still had no qualms in making such a stupid statement, which must have bewildered many of his own party members.

I repeat an earlier claim I have made: Gonzi has become an embarrassment to his own party.
