Though thanking both sides of the divorce debate, the Prime Minister had still to accept an invitation extended to him in November to meet the pro-divorce movement, the lobby group complained yesterday.

A Nationalist Party spokesman had said at the time, the party still had not taken a stand on the issue and once it did, it would be willing to meet the pro-divorce lobby.

The lobby made its comments in the wake of a meeting between the Prime Minister and the anti-divorce movement, yesterday.

The Yes For Divorce, Yes For Marriage movement complained it had asked for a similar meeting last November 15, before the movement objecting to divorce legislation had even been founded.

“At the time, the reply was that the internal debate within the Nationalist Party had to be concluded. Months have passed since the discussions were concluded but, so far, there has been no communication that the Prime Minister was ready to meet the Yes movement,” a spokesman for the group said yesterday.

The PN explained it had informed the movement that Dr Gonzi would be ready to meet after the party had taken a stand. “Despite there being no request after the PN took a stand, the PN confirms its leader’s disposition to meet the Yes For Divorce, Yes For Marriage movement,” the PN said.
