The Prime Minister yesterday urged employers to understand the importance of holding on to employees by offering flexibility, particularly to women with children.

During a visit to audit company KPMG, which announced a €2.5 million renovation investment, Dr Gonzi remarked that 55 per cent of the company’s workforce were women.

Dr Gonzi praised KPMG for investing regularly in its staff’s training and offering flexibility to workers who got pregnant or had young children.

“This should send a message to other employers,” he said, in a subtle appeal for employers to approve the maternity leave extension proposed on Monday as part of next year’s Budget.
