Vladimir Gojkovic, regarded as Montenegro’s ‘prodigal son’ after he returned to the fold of his national team, has helped his country strike success in an Olympic qualifying eight-team tournament held in Canada earlier this month.

The versatile player, who turned out for Neptunes last season, was instrumental in Montenegro keeping a clean sheet as he led his team sweep the board with seven successive victories, the last being a 12-9 success in the final against Spain when he was among the scorers.

Gojkovic’s role as a playmaker did not stop him from netting a total of seven goals against such opposition as Greece, Germany, Holland, Romania and Macedonia.

Besides Montenegro and Spain the other two of the four qualifiers for the London Olympics were Greece and Romania.
