GS1 Malta recently signed an agreement with Central Procurement Supplies Unit Malta.
The main aim of this agreement is to help CPSU implement globally unique identifiers for medicines and medical devices, followed by locations and assets. CPSU sees use of GS1 standards as a mechanism to drive efficiency and accuracy through its warehousing and distribution processes. GS1 Malta is the Maltese member of the GS1, a not-for-profit global standards development organisation.
The development and implementation of GS1 standards is led by the industry experts who use them. “Our mission is to increase patient safety, supply chain security and efficiency, traceability and accurate data synchronisation in healthcare,” said GS1 Malta chairman Godwin Micallef.
As GS1 standards for healthcare were developed over the last decade, healthcare communities across more than 65 countries have embraced them and advanced their implementation.
GS1 standards enable streamlined supply chain processes and improve visibility – from manufacturer to patient.
Such standards have also been adopted by the National Health Service in England, the Australian state and territory governments and a range of hospitals worldwide.
