The Duke of Edinburgh once warned people living in China that if they stayed too long they would develop “slitty eyes”.

Well, it seems he was right. When I left Northern Ireland in 1971 most people still looked rather European, although there was indeed an increasing number of Chinese restaurants around.

Apparently, these have increased to such an extent that not only have Northern Irish people like Bronagh Conway and Cathal Kearney (November 12) developed the aforementioned slitty eyes but they have even been given Chinese passports!

Isn’t this taking global integration a bit far?
