Reference is made to the Finance Minister’s speech on Budget 2012.

He stated that “as from next year we will remove television licences and thus we will implement an electoral promise. Justice requires that those with an outstanding unpaid licence be asked to regularise their position, and a scheme will be implemented for them to be able to do this and thus avoid paying additional fines”.

Whoever purchased a TV set in the last 10 years or so was not paying any TV licences because TV outlets (shops) have discontinued the procedure of informing the Wireless Telegraphy Office of such sales.

How come the minister would be insisting that TV licence relapsers would have to pay the outstanding arrears? This would be creating a great anomaly for those TV licence holders who over the last 10 years or so failed to update their TV licence while all those who have purchased a TV set are not even known to the W&T Office.
