The Malta Information Technology Agency (Mita) recently organised a blood-donation drive with its employees and neighbour-ing entities, namely the National Commission for the Promotion of Equality and the Foundation for Information Technology Accessibility.

These initiatives are organised regularly at Mita but in light of the upcoming World Blood Donor Day on June 14, the agency hopes this will further increase and spread more awareness about the significance of blood donation, encouraging other organisations to follow suit.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of World Blood Donor Day and this year’s campaign, called Give the Gift of Life: Donate Blood, will focus on the value of donated blood to the patient, not only in saving a life, but also in helping people live longer and more productive lives.

Mita’s blood-donation drive, which kicked off last month, has managed to attract some 45 donors. To make things smoother, Mita organised its own shuttle service between its offices and the National Blood Transfusion Unit in Guardamangia.

This initiative was coordinated by Mita’s corporate social responsibility committee. CSR committee chairman Noel Tabone said it was a success and the willingness of employees to contribute towards saving lives was inspiring. Giving blood takes very little time and effort, yet it can save a person’s life. Mita’s executive chairman Tony Sultana voiced his appreciation to the newly-formed committee as well as to all participating employees not only for donating blood but also for their dedication.

“Such a campaign has highlighted the altruism of employees and the dedication they possess to help others. Mita strives to encourage its employees to contribute towards society in any way possible. The campaign is a clear example of how we can help society and change a life in the process.”

The National Blood Transfusion Centre at St Luke’s Square, Guardamangia, is open daily from 8am to 6pm, including Sundays and public holidays.
