Steve Casaletto, Key IT Group, explains how ITIL – a recognised framework for IT service management – helps in the identification, planning, delivery and support of IT services to business.

From word processing and graphic design to cloud computing and bespoke software solutions, the business world is becoming ever more dependant on IT to satisfy corporate aims and meet professional goals.

But how exactly are IT services regulated?

That’s exactly where ITIL – a widely-adopted framework for IT service management comes in, promising a practical, no-nonsense approach to the identification, planning, delivery and support of IT services to business.

To facilitate this further, ITIL has launched an easily accessible, yet comprehensive qualifications scheme, offering a range of personal training courses and certifications at foundation, intermediate and expert level, and which are now available in Malta.

The course at foundation level gives students a general awareness of the key elements, concepts and terminology used in the ITIL service lifecycle.

It is ideal for those who require a basic understanding of the framework; those who want to know how ITIL can be used to enhance the quality of IT service management; and those working within an organisation that has adopted and adapted ITIL and who need to know more about what is required.

Next up, the ITIL intermediate level takes on a modular structure, with each unit having a different focus. Candidates can take as few or as many intermediate qualifications as they require, depending on their needs, and will graduate with an industry-recognised qualification. It is ideal for those who require a much deeper understanding of ITIL, and modules of interest could include Service strategy qualification, Service transition and Continual service improvement.

Finally, for those who would like to develop complete proficiency of ITIL, the expert level goes into tremendous detail. Achieving this level of ITIL qualification benefits both personal and professional development by aiding career advancement and progression within the IT service management field. The modules are all flexible and candidates are free to select from a variety of qualifications which focus on targeted areas of the ITIL Service Lifecycle. Once completed, students are awarded the ITIL expert certificate.
