Now that the economy is doing very well, it is about time that we got rid of that eyesore near the Parliament building at the entrance of our capital city.

What is now called Pjazza Teatru Rjal is not a ‘piazza’, nor is it a ‘theatre’ and much less ‘royal’. It looks more like the sad and confused remains of some imposing building utterly devastated by a hurricane or an earthquake.

The site should be totally swept clean and the former magnificent opera house be rebuilt in all its former splendour, for the glory of Valletta.

This is, and always has been, the wish of the majority of the Maltese. Valletta and Malta deserve a state-of-the-art opera house.
