It’s hard to see how the FIFA franchise can be improved further. However, according to producer David Rutter, FIFA 12, which will be available later this year, is a revolution rather than an evolution. Locked in an eternal battle against Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer series, the next FIFA installment will carry a series of new gameplay elements. The first, called a Player Impact Engine, will calculate collisions and injuries on the fly – not only are collisions now more varied but they also add to the realism of the game.

Players will also have more control over their players’ dribbling skills – such precision dribbling will allow players to make the most of their players’ agility as well as take advantage of opposing defender’s mistimed tackles.

Tactical defending will also be beefed up, while the Pro Player Intelligence function will allow the virtual players to think more like their real-life counterparts.

The menu has also been revamped and is now styled as a single bar along the bottom of the screen, with a pop-up bar.

Add this to the already brilliant gameplay and graphics, and it seems like the beautiful game will be even more beautiful this season.
