Alfred Conti Borda writes:

I only knew George for a decade. I first met him at the former Malta Union of Teachers premises in Valletta. He immediately impressed me with his hard work and driving force.

He was a staunch supporter of the MUT and for many years he was a school delegate and sat on various election boards. He put his heart and soul in supporting the union, by visiting the teachers’ institute once or twice a week to voluntarily help out in odd secretarial jobs.

Later as a member of the MUT Retired Educators’ Section, he regularly attended the section’s council meetings and outings. George also helped in sending circulars to about 500 retired educators inviting them to attend our monthly cultural outings. About two years ago he won the MUT award for Long-Standing Loyalty.

George taught in various primary schools and history in secondary schools round the island, always yearning to learn more in order to give the best to his students.

Moreover, he was also devoted to Our Lady in the parish church of Attard, and participated in fundraising activities for the church fair.

George was a dedicated family man and he will sorely be missed.

I will forever be very grateful for a dozen war books that he gladly gave me last year and I shall keep them in memory of him.

It is a pity that we have lost George but I am pretty sure that the Lord has gained him.

May he rest in peace.
