Pasquale Marino was yesterday sacked as Genoa coach with his predecessor Alberto Malesani returning to the hotseat.

Marino lasted a little over three months having replaced Malesani just before Christmas.

Genoa have not won in nine matches with Sunday’s entertaining 5-4 defeat at Inter proving the final straw.

That left Genoa, the oldest football club in Italy, just two places and six points above the relegation zone.

They also have the worst defensive record in Serie A.

Marino had won three of his first five games in charge, all of those by a 3-2 scoreline, but had not won since.

His league record in charge was three wins, four draws and seven defeats for a return of 13 points in 14 games.

Malesani had himself been fired on December 22 following a 6-1 loss at Napoli.

Marino’s sacking was the 17th in Serie A this season.

Serie B: Played yesterday – Reggina vs Brescia 1-1.
