A product which promises to solve the age-long problem of discoloured or stained gelcoat surfaces was recently launched in Malta during a hands-on demonstration at the Manoel Island Yacht Yard.

The demonstration was carried out by Morten Duwe representing Top Gear Marine from Australia. A live demonstration of the product application technique was carried out on two yachts at the yard.

The Top Gear gelcoat rejuvinator consists of a three-stage application process: the first two combine the application of the patented Top Gear chemicals which together open up the pores of the gelcoat surface, the second extracting all impurities, paraffin and other chemicals which usually penetrate the gelcoat surface during the manufacturing process of the yacht together with accumulating dirt.

The third and last stage of the process involves the buffing and polishing of the vessel and the application of the final Top Shine sealant, which creates a polymer-based transparent and vividly reflecting barrier coat.
