National champion Dermot Galea, fresh from his victory in the 113K Malta Middle Distance Triathlon two weeks ago, will compete in the 70.3 Ironman Italy this Sunday.

The race, held in Pescara, is one of a series on the Ironman circuit. Galea’s participation in this race is part of his preparations for Ironman Wales, to be held on September 16.

The 70.3 Ironman consists of a 1.9-kilometre swim, followed by a 90-kilometre cycle and finishes with a half marathon over the distance of 21.1 kilometres.

Galea, who is a member of the Birkirkara St Joseph club, is looking to improve his personal best of 4hrs 24mins set two weeks ago in Malta.

In Italy, Galea will be accompanied by Giuseppe Ferrara, of Starbene.
