Malta’s largest union is holding the Malta Union of Bank Employees responsible for damages after it obtained a court warrant to stops talks over a collective agreement with Bank of Valletta.

The General Workers’ Union said the MUBE was contesting the fact that it enjoyed bank recognition and that it already represented non-clerical workers.

In a judicial protest filed yesterday, the GWU said it had been given recognition by the bank after independent verification.

It noted that in its court action the MUBE had not claimed let alone proved to represent the majority of the workers.

The MUBE’s action was frivolous and malicious, the GWU said.

Lawyer Aaron Mifsud Bonnici signed the protest.
