The board of directors of GO plc will be appointing a new CEO from March 30 to replace Yiannos Michaelides, who will be pursuing other opportunities.

Mr Michaelides, who has been at the helm since 2012, has successfully led GO’s senior team in their efforts to grow GO into a modern and diversified quad play business. During his tenure, GO has embarked on a transformational strategic direction, executing major revamps of its product portfolio, enhancing customer experience, strengthening its brand and initiating significant strategic investments.

These have delivered major gains in key growth areas such as multiplay, mobile, TV and broadband, and GO has consistently grown profitability, outperforming EU telecoms benchmarks.

At the same time, the strategic investments in Fibre to the Home (FTTH) and fibre-connected 4G are delivering an unmatched capability that gives GO a significant, sustainable, competitive advantage for the future. All this was accomplished in parallel with an array of HR initiatives which also led to significant improvements in employee satisfaction.

Under Mr Michaelides’ leadership GO is now a much larger company both in terms of revenues and profitability, in particular following the strategic acquisition of a controlling stake in Cablenet in Cyprus, a game-changing development with far-reaching implications for GO, which now also operates in a market double the size of its domestic one. Moreover, he oversaw the group’s diversification into ICT-related business services, with the strategic acquisition of a majority stake in Kinetix in Malta.

As a result of this, the group has a more international dimension, a healthy and profitable business model, diversified income streams, a number of strong brands and a robust and successful strategy that will continue to deliver.

Mr Michaelides said: “GO is a fantastic brand, truly a great company with a dedicated and competent workforce, some exciting plans and strong prospects. I am proud to have been part of this success story and wish all the team the very best.”

GO chairman Nizar Bouguila said: “Under Yiannos’ dynamic and focused leadership, GO has experienced a dramatic and fast-paced evolution. His transformational initiatives and vision have delivered a stronger and larger GO, and a more vigorous financial performance. Yiannos has delivered exceptional value and has established the foundations for a promising future for the group. We are, therefore, truly grateful to him for his positive contribution.”
