Following a voting session by a select panel of judges earlier this month, the organising committee of the Għanja tal-Poplu festival has announced the 19 songs that will compete in the final of this year’s edition of the popular music event.

The standard of the entries submitted, according to the judges, was once again very high, highlighting the quality of the compositions and lyrics and more particularly, the effective way that topics of contemporary relevance were addressed in the songs.

The annual event, now in its 37th edition, seeks to promote songs sung in the Maltese language and encourages songwriters and lyricists to embrace all genres as this enables the language to remain fresh and alive.

The songs to be performed live on April 20 at the University of Malta’s Sir Temi Zammit Hall are Anġli Bla Ġwenħajn, Bikja Mid-Deżert, Bit-Tof... Ma Tofx...?, Għal Dejjem, Ġrajja ta’ Kull Żmien, Hawn Siġġu Nieqes, Ibni, Id-Dar Għal Bejgħ, Il-Gwardjan, Il-Maltin Bil-Politka Mehdijin, Is-Sajjied Tax-Xatt Tax-Xlokk, Kuluri, Lwien, L-Istorja Tagħna, Nammetti Li Ma Naf Xejn, Pupazz, Signor Si, Taħnina, Tinsinix and Virtwali.
