Two megaphones – one placed next to St Roche Chapel at St Michael’s Counterguard in Valletta (access through Yellow Garage, off Great Siege Road), and the other across the harbour, on the public foreshore of Manoel Island – will tomorrow be used to transmit contemporary għana dialogue, addressing current urban and social issues.

Times of Dilemma forms part of the exhibition Dal-Baħar Madwarha/The Island is what the Sea Surrounds, curated by Maren Richter, an artistic journey that explores Malta’s ‘islandness’.

The dialogue, which will be sung between a 320-metre distance, was conceived through a participatory process which brought together għana singers, authors, activists and experts from diverse backgrounds.

The għannejja will include Il-Bukku Vince, Angelo Theuma, Maria Agius and Josmick Agius, while John Saliba, Victor Grech and Frans Casha will be playing the guitar.

Texts written by Maltese authors Jean Paul Borg, Jo Burden, Immanuel Mifsud Tuneswere then transformed into contemporary għana dialogues by the young għannejja-rapper Rachelle Deguara and għannejja l-Bukku Vince, Angelo Theuma, Maria Aguis and Josmick Agius.

Times of Dilemma will be held tomorrow from 5 to 7.30pm.
