Għajnsielem chalked up three easy points in their quest to win the GFA Division One championship this season after beating bottom-placed St Lawrence Spurs 3-0.

The Blacks ended the second round as the only undefeated side in the top flight and enjoy a commanding six-point lead over second-placed Xewkija Tigers.

Għajnsielem were off to a stunning start.

The clock marked just 18 seconds gone when player/coach Shaun Bajada received the ball from kick-off, beat his direct marker and surprised the opposing keeper with a shot from the distance.

The leaders continued to dictate matters but the Spurs held tight until half-time even though Bajada was denied by the upright from a free-kick.

However, the Blacks made sure of victory with two goals after the break through Charles Hili (57) and substitute Kenney Hili (86).

Victoria Hotspurs consolidated fourth place with a narrow 1-0 win over neighbours Oratory Youths.

The Hotspurs clinched victory on 63 minutes following a shot from outside the box by Michael Camilleri that left the keeper stranded.

In another top-division match, SK Victoria Wanderers turned defeat into victory after beating Kerċem Ajax 3-2 to join Oratory Youths on the 11-point mark.

Kerċem took a deserved lead early on from a penalty, awarded for a foul by David Udo Monday on Shaun Attard and converted by Claudio Antunes.

Predrag Djordjevic levelled matters with a cute lob before half-time but the Ajax regained the lead through a low drive by Andrew Mizzi as the second half got underway.

Kerċem, however, dropped back as the Wanderers applied more pressure and their efforts produced the desired dividends.

Monday made no mistake from the spot to make it two-all after goalkeeper Adrian Parnis tripped Eric Nwankwo inside the penalty box.

Sam Harland struck the winner, concluding a fine solo move on 89 minutes with his shot hitting the posts before landing in the net.

Nadur beaten

Għarb Rangers pulled off the biggest surprise in Division Two this season after obtaining a shock 4-2 win over promotion seekers Nadur Youngsters last weekend.

This result means that the Youngsters stay two points behind leaders Xagħra United who also have a game in hand.

There was no hint of an upset when Nadur opened a deserved two-goal lead thanks to a Brandon Said (12, 24) double.

Għarb, however, narrowed the deficit with a Paul Anthony Attard goal before half-time as Nadur suffered a blow when Christian Debono was sent off on 58 minutes.

Rangers pulled level through substitute Frank Attard eight minutes from time and then scored from a Christian Attard penalty (89) and a tap-in by Sylvan Galea (90) to complete a remarkable comeback.

Meanwhile, the first matchday of the third round saw Munxar Falcons and Żebbuġ Rovers return home with a point each after a goalless draw.
