Recently, I had the pleasure of walking the full length of the Victoria Lines. It is only in this way that one can truly appreciate this fine piece of civil engineering and simultaneously experience some of our nation’s most outstanding landscapes. Today well over a century old, this Grade 1 listed monument is showing worrying signs of age.
At Naxxar Gap, near where, tragically, a substantial section of the lines has been lost to quarrying, some parts of the wall have recently collapsed. Can the relevant authorities please take immediate action? All masonry elements are still present and the sections in question are very close to the main road and can therefore be easily accessed. The cost for repairs should, thus, not be too high.
I appeal to the new Ministry of Tourism, which is also responsible for restoration, to urgently carry out the necessary repairs as neglect will only lead to further disintegration.
