The BOV Valletta Boat Show 2013, held at Boiler Wharf, Senglea,is sure to delight boating enthusiasts. Luckily, for the clueless visitors or the not-so-avid fans, there is also plenty to do apart from admiring the exhibits.

A classic beauty

The Stereden Ann Esperanz was built in Dubai in 2009. This schooner, whose name means Star of Hope, offers 23.2 metres of luxury in a breathtaking setting. Built entirely of teak, she will be in attendance at this year’s Boat Show, giving visitors a chance to get up close and personal with a real thing of beauty.

Seafaring saviours

Most of us will never need their help but for those who already have and those who will, the Armed Forces of Malta Search and Rescue team are the knights in shining armour (and life vests). They will be displaying one of their search and rescue vessels to the public over the weekend, hopefully instilling an appreciation for the work they do in keeping us safe at sea.

Artist at work

With a deft flick of his pen, Alvalenti can turn the simplest shape into a work of art. Famous for his appearances on Zelig on Canale 5, Alvalenti will be delivering shows throughout the Boat Show and will also have his own stand.

Young mariners

The strongest passions often develop when we’re young. That’s why the Malta Young Sailors Club will be hosting taster sails during the Boat Show. Children can try their hand at sailing under close supervision. A word of caution however – side effects may include a lifelong obsession.

Flying high

For those with an interest in all things adventurous, the Boat Show has something in store for you too. Simon Desira will be whetting the adrenaline junkies’ appetites with hourly demonstrations of flyboarding, the latest craze that combines speed, water and that staple of sci-fi fiction, the jet-pack.

Need for speed

If your need for speed is still not sated, Chaudron Powerboats will be showcasing some 40 of their vessels. Since its inception 25 years ago, Chaudron has been producing fast, powerful and stunning powerboats that are sure to thrill, even from shore.
