The Youth Football Association, in collaboration with the Malta FA Technical Centre, last week organised a seminar at the Centenary Hall that featured the participation of Gary Boyd, a Talent ID Scout with English Championship club Fulham.
Boyd is a UEFA A licence coach who has worked at Crewe Alexandra’s famed youth academy and with the Northern Ireland FA before joining the Fulham Academy three years ago.
After a brief introduction by Robert Attard, the vice-president of the Youth FA, and Robert Gatt, the MFA technical director, Boyd began his presentation by introducing the Fulham Youth Academy’s mission statement, philosophy, playing style and facilities .
Boyd then explained in detail the recruitment process and the various qualities they look for in a young player, namely technique, football intelligence, personality, agility, balance, co-ordination and speed.
The Fulham scout concluded his presentation by highlighting the training methods used by Fulham and how they look after their players.
In a statement, the Youth FA thanked Gary Boyd “for sharing his vast experience with our coaches while looking forward for future collaborations”.
