With regard to the letter by Joseph Muscat (September 19) regarding the performance of War and Peace at St James Cavalier, I too found it very frustrating. In fact, after 20 minutes of discordance and slow handclapping by the audience I went to the reception and asked the attendant if he could phone the operator and ask him to fast forward the film, which he duly did.

As noted by Muscat, there were no subtitles. I endured this for about 20 minutes and then to reception again and asked for subtitles. After calling the operator, the receptionist told me there are no subtitles. I replied that, as a regular patron, I knew there were always subtitles and that if there were not to be any then I would leave as it did not make sense not understanding anything.

As I was leaving, the young man told me it was a mistake and that there were subtitles after all. So, I returned. Also, I had checked the time the opera would end and I was told it would be 7pm. As I have difficulties walking I always order a taxi in the evenings. However, I had to cancel because the event finished at 8pm. I tried to reschedule it and, to cut a long story short, the battery of my mobile phone went flat and I had to borrow a phone from the receptionist.

The whole outing was frustrating; even the fans where too powerful and I could not even get a cup of tea from the coffee shop there. At least, the opera was wonderful.
