A Chinese brand of frozen shrimps is being recalled by the health authorities because of an excessive level of sulphites.

The product, Gambero Rosso (Cinese) Sgusciato, in one kilogramme bags with an expiry date of March 1, 2013 and lot number 11110 - 02/03/2011 should not be consumed. Sulphites are preservatives used in drinks and foods but can cause allergy like reactions, most commonly asthma symptoms in those with underlying asthma and, very rarely, a severe allergic reaction. Wheezing is the most common reaction.
