The lead article carried on page one of The Sunday Times of Malta of February 21 entitled ‘Bonnici: I am right and experts are wrong’ does no only tell a lie, but fabricates a lie about my character.

Anyone who read the lead article was led to believe that I actually said those words. I did not say those words – plain and simple. Neither is it in my character to say those words. Comment is free, but facts are sacred.

On the merits of whether a court attorney is an attorney who exercises the legal profession, I refer to what law dean Prof. Kevin Aquilina wrote last Monday in the Times of Malta (i.e. that a court attorney does exercise the legal profession) and rest my case. This position is identical to the advice given to me by the Attorney General on this same issue.

I strongly urge The Sunday Times of Malta to stream a full, unedited version of the interview on its portal so that readers can decide for themselves whether what I am claiming is correct or otherwise.

Editorial note: Dr Bonnici said during the interview: “There’s absolutely no argument. I respect Giovanni Bonello… I respect Prof. (Kevin) Aquilina; But they are not correct.” The front page heading is faithful to that comment.
