I would like to address this letter to those drivers who in a previous life either were a snail or those who aspire to be snails. While I don’t condone speeding and believe that our roads would be a lot safer if people adhered to the speed limits, I also see the danger in driving at excessively slow speeds, particularly in this heat. Drivers with the best of intentions often become so frustrated and impatient that they overtake dangerously, almost causing accidents.

So, if you’re too hot to go for a walk and are considering going for a leisurely drive instead, I would ask you to think twice about this for the safety and sanity of those who actually need to get somewhere. Alternatively, you may want to reserve your snail-paced drive for a more appropriate hour, such as somewhere between 4 and 5 a.m.
