In a report last Monday about “measures agreed to shift buses away from Bisazza Street”, The Times quoted the Transport Ministry as saying: “In a day, the aggregate additional mileage will be equivalent to the distance between Malta and Rome; in a month the additional distance to be covered by the bus service will be approximately equivalent to the distance between Malta and Sydney”.

Is the person who did the calculations serious or did he goof big time?

The distance from Malta to Sydney is 16,106 kilometres. Divide that by 30 (days) and it comes to 536 kilometres. This means that the diversion due to the Bisazza Street closure will cause Arriva to drive an extra 536 kilometres every day.

Can someone from the ministry or Arriva please explain this to us?
