The second friendly between the Chairman’s XI and the Captain’s XI was played on Saturday at Marsa.

The Chairman’s duo, Malcolm Crabbe and Joy Ghoseroy, were the opening batsmen in the 20-over game.

Ghoseroy did not stay there too long as he was out on the first ball of the second over. Ronnie Sacco came in but also found himself walking back to the pavilion in the next over, being caught by John Rusher.

In came Andy Lenard and with Crabbe they steadied the ship and put on a 61-run partnership.

Lenard was bowled. He made 30 runs from 33 balls faced, including two 4s.

Crabbe’s long innings fell shortly after that of Lenard’s. He finished on 32 runs from 40 balls.

The batting tempo picked up as Darren Grech hit 21 runs from 22 balls with Justin Brooke adding 19 from 15 balls. Sam Aquilina managed four runs off two balls.

Dave Borg was the main wicket taker with two while Mike Caruana and Derek Ali took one each. The Chairman’s team totalled 115 runs.

The Captain’s team failed miserably in their reply and were all out for 63 runs which included 15 extras.

Bikram Arora was the only batsman who made it to double figures – 19.

For the second week running Arora was caught by Brooke who ran backwards and flung his body to take an incredible catch.

Lenard, Sacco, Kevin Krishna and Ghoseroy all took two wickets each. With this win the series is now level at 1-1.
