French President Nicolas Sarkozy has appointed outgoing French Ambassador to Malta as the next French Permanent Representative to Paris-based Unesco.
France views Unesco as a very important organisation as it promotes the building of peace, poverty eradication, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, communication and information.
The country hosts the seat of Unesco and has been a member of its executive council since its creation.
The Ambassador brings to his new post a background as a writer, journalist, columnist, publisher and editor. It will serve him well as he intends playing a crucial role as France monitors the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
