The General Workers’ Union suspended go-slow and work-to-rule directives at Malta Freeport in view of new developments in the issue over union recognition.
Contacts early yesterday morning could “lead to a solution” and the GWU said an “important meeting” would be held today with all involved parties. It decided to suspend the industrial action out of goodwill.
The action was called last week after the union insisted on “immediate” recognition by the company’s management. It wanted the Freeport to agree to an immediate verification process to confirm that the majority of the workers, about 700, were members of the GWU.
