Free vaccination against seasonal influenza is being offered to everyone over six months of age at health clinics from Monday.

The vaccine helps prevent severe illness that can bring about medical complications. Influenza is more common during the colder months but this is the ideal time to get vaccinated to help the body build up immunity against the virus, the health department said.

The vaccine is available at health centres and the Health Centre treatment rooms after opening hours. In the case of children, the ID card or immunisation record book has to be presented.
