A fraudster who convinced a woman to do a business deal with him to import items from abroad yesterday admitted to swindling her out of €13,700.

Emanuel Tabone, 54, from Qormi had told the victim he needed the money to import stock, Police Inspector Angelo Gafa’ said.

Lawyer Joe Brincat said his client apologised and was ready to pay the money back but needed time to do so. Magistrate Francesco Depasquale jailed him for two years suspended for four and gave him six months to pay the money back or face jail time.

Lawyer Kris Busietta appeared for the victim.
