The Franciscan Minors lost two very well known priests within a few weeks. The loss of Fr Giustino and Fr George is a big loss for an already very small community with major responsibilities in Malta and elsewhere. Both were mainly well known in Valletta where they spent most of their lives, well integrated in the local community of the Pauline part of the city.

Fr Gorg, proudly hailing from Qormi, was an exceptionally cultured person. He has always been the Franciscan archivist and historian. He was a quiet person dedicating his life to prayer and study. He was very meticulous in his research and spent much of his time in archives.

He published extensively and like any good researcher had a million other things in his head that he would have loved to publish. Malta has lost a source of knowledge.

For many years he was responsible for the procession of Good Friday, on the Friars’ side, and over the years got more and more worried that it was turning into the type of procession seen elsewhere. He was very much worried about excesses. His main love, outside archives, was taking care of the Sisters of St Ursula, ever worrying about their wellbeing.

One hopes that whatever he has left unpublished but written will not be lost but that his work will somehow be continued.
