Britain’s Ben Ainslie (picture) became the most decorated Olympic Games sailor in history yesterday when he captured a fourth consecutive gold medal before announcing his intention to quit. The 35-year-old, who also won silver in 1996, overtakes Denmark’s Paul Elvstrom, who won four golds from 1948 to 1960 as the sport’s most successful sailor. In the Finn Class, Ainslie pushed Denmark’s Jonas Hogh-Christensen into the silver medal position and France’s Jonathan Lobert third. Sweden’s Max Salminen and Fredrik Loof won the Star gold medal, denying GB hopes Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson. Brazilians Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada were third.
