A 30-year-old drug addict who has been battling his addiction since 1994 was yesterday jailed for four months after admitting to possessing heroin in 2007.

Magistrate Marseann Farrugia took into consideration the fact that Vincent Attard, 36, from Valletta, had 19 convictions, many of them drug related.

She noted that he had been given many opportunities to reform, had been conditionally discharged on four occasions, placed under probation, given three suspended jail terms and even sent to prison twice.

Mr Attard was found in possession of four pieces of foil with traces of heroin on them. Police Inspector Dennis Theuma prosecuted.
