Maltese swimmers taking part in last weekend’s ASA time-trial meeting at Tal-Qroqq’s pool established four new age-group records as the build-up to next month’s National Championship continues.
Among those with the new best times in their respective categories was Matthew Galea, of Sliema, this season coached by Isabelle Zarb.
He swam the 50m backstroke in 30.51 to erase the previous Group C best of 30.66 set by Matthew Zammit in July 2010.
The other three age-group records were all achieved by Neptunes swimmers, under the tutelage of coach Gail Rizzo.
In Group B, Laura Demicoli swam the 200m fly in 2:54.40 (previous best: Elaine Farrugia 2:54.51, October 1996); Neil Muscat finished the 200m IM in 2:30.51 (previous best: 2:31.15) and in Group C Julian Harding covered the 100m breaststroke in 1:11.20 (previous best: 1:12.48, Daniel Galea, December 2008).
