As part of its commitment towards the environment, the Alfred Mizzi Foundation has supported the resurgence of Xummiemu as Malta’s environmental ambassador.

The mascot, a household name for children and adults in the 1990s, has been given a new lease of life by the Ministry of Resources and Rural Affairs and the ‘Hedgehog consortium’.

Xummiemu’s re-launch was held at St Joseph School, Sliema, where the mascot was symbolically appointed ambassador for the environment.

Chrysander Agius, on behalf of the Hedgehog consortium, said Xummiemu had been given a new lease of life to address contemporary issues related to the environment.

The consortium has created an innovative programme of events aimed at promoting the environment in a fun and interactive way.

Albert Petrocochino, a trustee of the foundation, said the sponsorship formed part of the foundation’s obligation to safeguard the local environment.
