Besides the opera Norma, the second performance being held tomorrow, Festival Mediterranea, now in its 10th edition, continues until November 19 with events that expose the islands’ history and cultural traditions in more ways than one. The festival is organised by volunteers at Astra Theatre in Gozo.

The remaining events include a visit to the vineyards of a boutique winery in Għarb, tomorrow morning, a visit to several food-production plants on Wednesday, and a lecture by leading historian Victor Mallia-Milanes that discusses the views of two contemporary Venetian Hospitallers of the Order of St John on Malta.

Next weekend has more music on offer, with a concert by La Stella Brass Ensemble and soloists.

The festival continues during the following two weekends with a most interesting on-site lecture about paintings in several churches, spanning three centuries from the baroque to the romantic, led by artist and art-historian Mark Sagona. David Trump, leading UK archaeologist and scholar, returns for Festival Mediterranea for an on-site lecture at the Bronze Age settlement of In-Nuffara in Gozo, and to give a lecture entitled Conversations with Skeletons. The festival comes to an end with the annual grand concert by La Stella Philharmonic Band at the Astra.
