Eight foreigners who all had valid Italian travelling documents were detained after they were discovered by police living in abandoned asbestos pipes.

The police found the foreigners during a raid at Ħal-Far yesterday at 6.30am. Seven men, five from Ghana and two from Togo, were found during the raid. There was also a Spanish citizen who was released once his documents were verified.

As the foreigners do not have the means to sustain themselves, the police are making the necessary arrangements to return them to Italy. They are currently in police custody, the police said.
